Rome’s central train station, Stazione Centrale - Roma Termini, is about 10 minutes away on foot and there are regular connections to all the major Italian towns and cities. The closest metro stop is Cavour which is only one stop away on the B line in direction Laurentina. The city’s extensive over-ground transport system passes close to the hotel too; the main bus routes terminate in Piazza dei Cinquecento while trams dissect Via Principe Amadeo terminating on Via Amendola.
Esquilino is the name of the area south of Stazione Termini and north of the Colosseum. The Hotel Apollo lies in between these important landmarks. Of Rome’s famous seven hills, the Esquiline Hill is the largest. Via Cavour is the main traffic artery which connects Stazione Termini to the famous Fori Imperiali. If this seems like too much effort just hop on the metro or one of the many buses that frequently pass by.
A major sight in the surrounding area is the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore, one of Rome’s four patriarchal basilicas (along with St Peter’s, St Paul’s and San Giovanni in Laterano).
